Frequently Asked Questions

§ 01

Before you book

Is the Caminito del Rey worth it?

For most people, yes — a controlled, dramatic half-day walk through one of the deepest gorges in Spain, with almost no physical difficulty. Visitors who come away disappointed usually expected an extreme experience: the modern route is safe and railed, not the crumbling ledge from the old photos.

Is the Caminito del Rey dangerous?

No. The boardwalk is one metre wide with a railing and a safety line on the exposed sections, and a helmet is compulsory. It looks far more dangerous than it is — the real challenge is exposure, not risk.

What is the minimum age, and can I walk it both ways?

Minimum age is 8 — a hard limit on the route. It is one-way only, from the northern access near Ardales south to El Chorro; you cannot turn back partway.
